Candle Care

At All Things Beeswax & More, we want you to get the best use from your candle. Here are a few care tips to make that possible

Your Wick

When your candle arrives, your wick will be trimmed and ready to burn. To ensure the best burn, you want to make sure your wick is, no more than, a ½ " long before you relight your candle every time.

How far down to burn

You should never burn your candle after it reaches ½ " from the bottom of the jar. Burning any further may cause your container to break and the lit wick to fall out.

How long should I burn my candle?

It is advised that candles be extinguished after 4 hours of burn time, and allowed to cool for two hours. For your initial burn, it is important to burn for at least 4 hours, to liquefy the top layer of wax. This prevents a memory ring, which can lead to your candle tunneling as it burns. Tunneling can cause a wick to eventually drown, the further down it burns.

Where to burn

Always burn candles away from flammable objects, other heat sources, and drafts. Keep out of reach of children and pets, and never leave your candle unattended.

Extinguishing your candle

  • Use a wick dipper to dip the wick into the wax and put out the flame.
  • Use a snuffer to smother the flame.
  • Use the candle lid (if it is non flammable) to suffocate the fire and put the flame out.
